Medvedev's retrieving strategy and frequent outbursts on the tennis court had led observers to wonder if his capacity to play at the top level was finished.
However the athlete has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to come to the net and perform positively, supported by an enhanced service.
The champion came back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five points to gain the advantage.
The competitors exchanged breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to create a decider.
He rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a tight deciding set before the champion secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.
Suitably, the winner secured the title with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
